{"id":1721,"date":"2022-07-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-07-04T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ahflatamycaribe.org\/efforts-must-be-accelerated-to-end-aids-by-2030-unaids\/"},"modified":"2024-02-15T17:46:02","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T23:46:02","slug":"efforts-must-be-accelerated-to-end-aids-by-2030-unaids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ahflatamycaribe.org\/en\/efforts-must-be-accelerated-to-end-aids-by-2030-unaids\/","title":{"rendered":"Efforts must be accelerated to end AIDS by 2030: UNAIDS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>AIDS complications cause the death of more than 13,000 people every week around the world, so it is necessary to increase efforts to end this pandemic by 2030, a goal set by the member countries of the United Nations Organization (UN) in a political declaration adopted in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twelve months after the signing of this global agreement, the Secretary General of the UN, the Portuguese Ant\u00f3nio Guti\u00e9rrez, presented a report on the progress in the execution of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unaids.org\/es\/resources\/documents\/2021\/2021_political-declaration-on-hiv-and-aids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"declaration of commitment\">declaration of commitment<\/a>, which focuses on reducing inequality between different populations to thus being able to prepare the ground to end AIDS as a global scourge at the beginning of the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It is necessary to redouble efforts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/es\/story\/2022\/06\/1510102\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"UN news service\">UN news service<\/a>, the report asserts that social inequalities and lack of investment &#8220;put the world in a dangerous situation of lack of preparation to face the pandemics of today and tomorrow.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data collected by the Joint United Nations Program on HIV\/AIDS (UNAIDS) show that over the past year, HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths have not declined fast enough to meet the goal of eliminate the pandemic by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to guide efforts to stop and reverse the spread of HIV, the report outlines some specific measures, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 HIV prevention and addressing the social factors that produce inequality<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Responses whose leadership comes from the communities themselves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Equitable access to medicines, potential vaccines, and the latest health technologies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Sustainable financing for the AIDS response and the prevention, preparedness and response to the HIV pandemic in general<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Data collection systems that focus on people<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Strengthening of global alliances<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Three immediate steps<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the secretary general, in the voice of his chief of staff, Courtenay Rattray, pointed out three measures that should be adopted immediately, in order to reverse the current trends that move the world away from the elimination of the HIV pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, she said, inequalities related to the discrimination and marginalization of entire communities \u2013 women, people of sexual diversity or sex workers, for example \u2013 must be addressed, which are too often reinforced by laws and policies public that maintains them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The way to do this is to create policies aimed at reducing the risk of HIV infection in these marginalized communities, and he reflected that, while stigma harms everyone, social solidarity &#8220;protects us all.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A second objective is to guarantee the renewal of HIV treatments, since the latest advances have developed long-acting treatments (such as the one that is given every two months), so that the largest number of people in the world have access to these new technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last but not least is by no means increasing the resources available for the response to HIV\/AIDS. \u201cInvesting in AIDS is investing in global health security.
